First Christmas together Part 1

I have been horrible at taking pictures this Christmas break so I have been taking them from my mom's facebook. haha! Our trip to Oklahoma was uneventful which we were thankful for. We have been enjoying seeing our family and spending time with them.

Our vacation started off well. My older sisters and I convinced our younger sister to buy a wii so we all could have something to do over the break. J  We loved playing against each other on Wii Sports Resort since we are all a little competitive.  It was also the only thing that would calm Ethan down, he was attached to the TV when the Wii was on.

The missionaries came over for dinner one night and both of them LOVE Utah (as in the University). We couldn’t let that happen in our home so we all wore our BYU t-shirts.  The reason we did this was because they were orginaly were going to come over for the dinner appointment decked out in Utah attire.

Not only were we silly with our t-shirts but we ate with unusual plates and utensils. We all looked like we needed to go to etiquette school! My family would always do this when my sisters and I were little because it made eating actually enjoyable! The Elders hardly ate anything, and by the time they finally finished their first SMALL serving of food, they were already full.

Our Bethlehem dinner was delicious! I love this family tradition!

Games! We played a few while the whole family was together.

Christmas Eve was fun! The Townsend’s had their Christmas Program that involved Justin, Miranda, Jenny, Geoff and Emily playing a song on the piano.  Dad read the Christmas story and we sang a couple songs.  I heard a few stories about Geoff and Christmas were he had a couple break downs with not being able to pick his own present to open on Christmas Eve.

After that we went to Bartlesville for the Tuckett Christmas party. We ate until we were full, played games and watched a movie. We also had a Christmas program but this time all the kids acted out the Nativity. Geoff was the donkey and I was a wise man. It ended with singing 10 Christmas songs.  We usually had Connor who plays the guitar, Kailey who plays the violin, and Uncle Tim who plays the saxophone but all of them didn’t come home for Christmas. We missed them a lot.

Temple Square

We just wanted to post some pictures of our FHE activity this week. We went to Temple Square and looked at the lights.  This picture was actually inside the elevator in Dessert Book, couldn't resist the shot.

I guess Wes decided to lick Natalie right when I took the picture.

Bethlehem Dinner

I am the Relief Society Meeting Coordinator (Enrichment) and we had a bethlehem dinner. This is a tradition in my family. We spread a table cloth on the floor and lay around it while eating our humble supper. My dad usually reads the Christmas story and then we enjoy each others company. This picture was of last year's Bethlehem dinner.

Our ward activity had a great turn out. I was pleased. We focused on Mary and her perspective of Christ's birth and life. We listened to the Song, "Mary did you know," and then someone from my home ward wrote "Mary's Story." I borrowed it and it was beautiful.

Mary’s Story

Hello, my name is Mary and I welcome you , my sisters, to Jerusalem this night.  I am so glad that you have come to celebrate the birth of my son, Jesus Christ, with me.  Before we sup together I would like to share my story, the story of the birth of Jesus Christ and his life.  Let us go back to the beginning.

At the time I was a young Israeli woman living in Nazareth and was betrothed to a wonderful man named Joseph.  He was a carpenter.  One day in the six month while going about my daily business an angel appeared unto me.  How do I described my feelings about this?  At first I was afraid like most of you would have been but Gabrielle (for that was the Angel’s name) said unto me “Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.  And behold, thou shalt conceive in the womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus.”  I felt somewhat confused at this so I asked the angel” How shall this be, seeing I  know not a man? “  The angel replied “The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.”
I cannot describe how I felt after this.  I am sure that I had many emotions going through my head.  Joy at having the Son of God and fear in my heart.  How would Joseph take the news when he found out?  Would he have me stoned which was the custom at the time or would he put me away privily?  I am sure that I also felt peace in that I knew this was the Lord’s will and that he would help make everything work out for the best.

Well, Joseph, who was a just man and was not willing to make me a public example, decided to put me away privily when he found out that I was with child, but as he was thinking upon these the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream saying “Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.  And she shall bring forth a son and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.”  So Joseph took me for his wife and knew me not until after my son’s birth.

During the time while I was carrying Jesus a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed and that every one should go into his own city.  This meant that Joseph and I had to travel to Bethlehem since Joseph was of the house of David.  At this time I was great with child.  It was a long journey and I was thankful for it to end, but when we arrived in Bethlehem there was no room for us in the inn.  One inn keeper was kind enough to let us stay in his stable, and this is where my son was born.  I am sure that I felt the way many of you have or will feel at the birth of your first child.  I probably felt exhausted, frightened, worried, and in pain  but at the same time I know there was great joy, love, happiness and peace.  When my son was born  I wrapped him in swaddling clothes and  laid him in a manger.

Although it is hard to describe what I was feeling at this time,  I can tell you that the heavens were rejoicing and that soon the news of this glad tiding spread.  One of the first to know of this miracle was some shepherds who were watching their flocks by night.  The angel of the Lord came unto them and after reassuring them that they had nothing to fear told them that their Savior, my son, had been born.  He also told them that they could find him lying in a manger wrapped in swaddling clothes.  “And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of heavenly host praising God, and saying Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace, good will toward men.”

After the angels left the shepherds decided to come and see this thing that had come to pass that the Lord had made known unto them.  They came quickly to Bethlehem and found Joseph, me and Jesus lying in a manger.  They then went and  spread the news of my son’s birth.  The Shepherds were just the first visitors.  A while later we had three wise men come and visit us.  What an experience that was to have three kings from the orient come to see us a carpenter and his wife but it wasn’t really Joseph or me that they were there to see.  It was their king, the Lord of Lord’s, their Savior, my son Jesus Christ.  The Wise Men brought him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.  When they saw the young child and me they fell to their knees and worshiped him.

After the Wise Men had departed, an Angel of the Lord appeared unto Joseph in a dream.  He told Joseph that he needed to take Jesus and me and flee into Egypt.  For at this time Herod the king was seeking to destroy Jesus.  So we left for Egypt and stayed there until Herod died.  We then returned and lived in the city of Nazareth.

I would just like to share one story with you about my son’s youth.  Every year we went to Jerusalem at the feast of the Passover.  When Jesus was twelve we went to Jerusalem as we normally did.  After the feast was over we returned to Nazareth.  We supposed that Jesus had returned with us and was somewhere in the group that was traveling together.  After a day’s journey we went and inquired of our family and friends where he was, but we didn’t find him.  I am sure that my heart stopped and that fear gripped me just then the same as it would you if your child was lost.  We went back to Jerusalem to look for him.  We found him after three days.  He was sitting in the Temple in the midst of the teachers.  They were listening to Jesus teach and asking him questions.  After being so afraid and sorrowing after Jesus being lost when I saw him I asked of him “ Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us?  Behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing. “   He replied unto me “How is it that ye sought me?  Wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business?”  What a privilege and challenge it was to raise this child.

Jesus grew to be a wonderful man.  Just like you and I he learned line upon line and precept upon precept but unlike us he was perfect.  He healed the sick.  He lifted up the weary.  He taught the gospel to the people and showed the way.  He preformed many miracles.  He went about his Father’s business until one day he ended up in the Garden of Gethsemane and upon a cross.  There he performed the greatest miracle of all.  He atoned for our sins and overcame death.  Just like you and I he lived on this Earth and he experienced trials and when he was in the garden and upon the cross he experienced every heartache, illness, and trial known to man.  He learned how to succor us in every need we have.  Because he did this for us, you and I will never have to walk alone.

Jesus was self less even upon the cross.  His thoughts were ones of love.  He forgave the thieves that were hung on either side of him and some of his last concerns were for me.  As I stood by the cross Jesus saw me and his disciple John standing there.  Jesus said unto me “Woman behold thy son! “  and he said unto John “Behold thy mother!”  From that hour on I was taken into John’s home and cared for.  What great love my son had for me that he would make sure that I was taken care of.

As we all know Jesus died upon the cross that day but three days later arose from the tomb.  Sister’s I testify unto you that he lives.  That he loves each and every one of you.  That he died that you may once again live with your Father in Heaven.  If you will turn to your Savior , even Jesus Christ , that you can be helped and carried through any trial that you have.  I promise you that if you follow him, always remember him, take upon you his name, and keep his commandments that one day you will return to live with your Heavenly Father and gain eternal life.

Well sisters this is my story that I wanted to share with you.  I hope that as you go through this Christmas season that you will remember my son and his life and that you will follow his example.  I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ Amen.

Decorating for Christmas

We finally put up our "real" fake christmas tree. In October I was so excited for Christmas that I asked Geoff if we could put up our tree and he told me that we have to celebrate Halloween and Thanksgiving before he would let that happen. I snuck into the guest bedroom, pulled down our Christmas box and took out some lights. After awhile Geoff could heard some rustling and asked, "Are you putting lights on the tree? (tree as in the tree that we have in our dining area all year). If you look back to our post when we are carving pumpkins, you will notice it. :-)

You have no idea how excited I was to put up our decorations!!! We have to thank the Nufers for their wonderful wedding gift, our TREE!

Geoff wants to get a wreath and stick it in the middle of the windows to make a face. :-)

Almost all of the decorations we have I bought last year after Christmas. I was stocking up! And plus that is when everything is 70% off.

Now the final product with lights and ornaments!

Geoff and I are starting our first Christmas tradition together! I think it's called Advent. The last 4 Sundays before Christmas you light a candle while eating dinner. So every Sunday you re-light the candle the week before and then another one. Today is Sunday #2. We eat with Geoff's mission companion and wife and have German meals. German food is really good! Except the desserts don't have a lot of sugar and when I think of desserts I always think of "sweet."

Thanksgiving Break

Our Thanksgiving break started off with us working both the Women's and Men's Basketball games Tuesday. We had heard that there was supposed to be a blizzard in Utah that was nothing like we had ever seen. BYU canceled classes early so students could get home. While we were working it started to snow really hard but only lasted 5 minutes.  That was our blizzard, 5 minutes of snow. Work was so boring because nobody came to the game and neither one of us wanted to cook dinner. We ran to Smith's to grab frozen dinners. After that we decided to move our bed into the living room so we could play the wii and watch movies all weekend!

I enjoyed eating dinner in bed.

Wednesday we went over to our cousin's house for a family party. I loved being around all the little kiddos! They are adorable! I can't wait to go home for Christmas and play with all my nieces and nephews! These girls were totally camera happy. Crystal, Kylie, Jade and Skylar are some of my favorite girls.

Stacey made some awesome Chili that Geoff LOVED! It is hard to make something and have him absolutely love it. I might just have to get the recipe. (She even said it was healthy, so that is a plus!) Crys spent all day making a cake for Travis because he got his GED. She might have to work on the show "Cake Boss!" She did a fantastic job on it! I didn't want to eat any of it because it was a work of art. Once it was brought in, all the kids wanted to touch it. I guess my Aunt had cake duty all day, trying to make sure that it didn't get destroyed.

TURKEY DAY!
Geoff worked and I slaved in the kitchen making the perfect pie. We spent most of our day with the Nufer's. the first thing we did was play ultimate spoons. If anybody knows how to play ultimate spoons you know that it can be dangerous. The first round I got a battle wound. Someone sliced my toe with their toenail and it bled a lot. I politely sat out the next rounds. haha! When they started playing normal spoons, I got back in on the action and dominated.

"The Karate Kid" was next on our list. I didn't realize that the boy did all of his stunts. It was impressive!   I wanted to see how flexible I was and this was the result:

My facial expressions are a little embarrassing but it had to be done. :-) My goal was to hit the (for lack of a better word) the pulley thing for the light. I was short just a little. The boys could barely lift their legs above waist level. I am sad I didn't take pictures of them trying! The pain was too much for them.

Pies, PIes, PIEs, PIES! Pies galore! Our donation for the Thanksgiving meal was a pie I got off my sister-in-law's website. It was strawberry cheesecake pie. We also had pumpkin, egg nog, banana cream, coconut cream, oreo, andes mint, apple and pecan pie! Our tummies were so full that we thought we would explode! Geoff and I are going to have leftovers for awhile. Aunt Teresa even made me my favorite Oreo ice cream and homemade bread. She is too good to us! We are truly grateful for all that she does for us.

We had a great Thanksgiving. Family is the best!

Bargain

Today we went to WinCo and bought all this stuff for only $2.80!!

Do you want in on our little secret? We got a paper that said: Free coupons! So we actually got almost everything free except the bratwurst and the spaghetti sauce. Nice huh? I guess WinCo wanted people to have a nice breakfast for Thanksgiving. Generous! And we are thankful! We will be having eggs, bacon, english muffins, cereal and Orange juice if anybody wants to come eat with us!

Yesterday I started my Soccer class and had a lot of fun while embarrassing myself. I have never played soccer in my life! Josh, my friend who is a Soccer player for BYU, is super good and I thought I would be cool and try to steal the ball from him. While in mid-kick I realized it was a stupid idea! I fell right onto my back and did something to my hand. At first I though I had broken it again because I think of the worst things possible and then I have to talk myself out of thinking that. So I am hoping that I just jammed it because it hasn't swollen that much but it definitely hurts. I still have full range of motion, so I am almost positive everything is fine.

While I was out hurting myself, Geoff was home alone. He was sick and I felt bad for him. He had a bad headache and horrible allergies. I think he enjoyed it though. When I got home he told me that he took a shower while eating a bowl of soup AND watched a movie all at the same time. These were his exact words, "When we get rich, we are putting a TV in the shower." haha what a goober! Aunt Kim invited us over to Jen, Michael, Dani and Jared's house for pizza. It was fun. I sat there quietly most of the time but I thought the conversations were funny.

Tomorrow we are going to see Harry Potter. We originally said that we would wait till it got to the dollar theater but my awesome Aunt and Uncle gave us some tickets. So we are kinda excited about that! It is also our last football game to work, which is good for me because I freeze outside. Other than that, we are totally ready for Thanksgiving and Christmas break!

Get Up and Go!

In my Advocacy class for Physical Education, we were assigned to make a video to advocate P.E. We all came up with a theme we wanted to present and then made a video. It was definitely fun to make but it's not the best quality. I am still learning how to do a few things but I am proud of my finished product considering I had no idea how to do this before I had the assignment. Geoff was one of my actors and I think he enjoyed it. He told me that he had always dreamed of doing what his role is in the video. I am ashamed to say that we didn't need to buy anything and that all of the props were already in our house. I will NEVER let that happen again!! I learned how to put the video on youtube which was kinda cool but I don't know how often I will use that information.

Sit back and relax while you decide if you want to "Get Up and Go!"

Always be a friend

There are so many people in the world. You never know who needs a friend. Always be ready and willing to serve. Do whatever you can to help others around you. It could be as simple as a smile, a phone call or just support. When you have that feeling to reach out to others, don’t brush it aside, act upon it because one day you might need a friend. Be understanding, compassionate and sincere because we are here to help each other. Friends should know that having someone to talk to is special. Friends support, admire, correct and love each other. Lets’ all make sure everyone feels loved and important.

Party #2-PETE

We had another Halloween party to dress up for! I was all ready to walk out the door when I realized I had  a black wig from last year I never used. Since no one knew I was Taylor Swift at the ward party I decided to be Cher! This time everyone knew who I was, so it worked! Geoff was the same thing and for some reason I couldn't stop laughing at him every time he stood up because I forgot he was wearing lederhosen.

PETE is the Program I'm in. Physical Education Teacher Education. I have made several good friends since we have every single class together.

These girls have become my best friends! They brought their boyfriends along as well. Mitch and Elayna (weird that I would be friends with another girl with my same name...it was meant to be) were the gangsters. Brandon and Jenny were Alvin and Brittany and then of course Geoff and me.

We had a fun time, we ate burgers, played some pool and watched the others play "Rock Band."

We had the devil singing, Pocahontas on the  drums and another gangster on the guitar. Then the little giraffe in the middle was dancing away! He had some really good dance moves! haha

Josh and his wife. The giraffe also belongs to them. :-)

 Sarah being a mobster.

Lindsey being her sweet, cute self.

Tonight Geoff and I are going to have another party but not a formal Halloween party. We invited Elayna and Jenny and their significant others over, and we are making halloween treats and watching a scary movie. Muahaha! I hope everyone has a SCARY Halloween!

Halloween Party # 1

Today was a great day!! For the past couple weeks Geoffrey has had a few interviews and I have been going crazy trying to wait to hear back from them. He had two interviews for being MTC Security and he also had one with a deli on campus. I was extremely anxious and I bugged Geoff a ton with asking if the MTC had called back or if he was going to check up on it and call them instead. Since we had been running low on money we were getting concerned and that's why we were both so anxious to hear back from them, but I had a feeling everything would be fine and that we would be taken care of. We received a blessing at 11 this morning. Geoff had texted me to tell me he got the job and I might have scared my friend because we were in class and I turned around unexpectedly and said in a weird/excited voice, "Geoff got the job!!" Geoff and I agreed that we can't wait to eat good food again!

Tonight was our Ward Halloween Party. I had to coax Geoff into going because he had a lot of homework but I needed to get out and socialize with people or I would go insane! As I have said before in some of my posts, Geoff has a lot more homework than I usually do and I end up doing nothing all night, so I needed to get out of the house. It was a hoot seeing all the costumes! There were some really good ones! We had Rufio from Hook and Shaggy and Daphne standing next to him.

Bishop had a wicked awesome costume, right from the 70's!

Amanda waiting to use her Karate knowledge.

I don't know what exactly they were but he definitely looks CRAZY!

These have to be my favorite by far! Perry the Platypus and Dr. Doofenshmirtz from Phineas and Pherb.

There was a pie eating contest to see who could eat it the fastest.

There were about 7 men and one woman. Here is before....

during....

and after....Daniel and the Lion's den won!

There was also a contest for the best dessert and these were the competition.

I was trying to be Taylor Swift but the Bishop thought I was just a swiss girl married to a Bavarian.
